Anna's new record
« on: April 03, 2014, 08:12:13 PM »
I of course don't have anything to say about this other than what Anna herself posted today, about a collaboration with some friends in the USA coming out soon, I just wanted to start this thread and say: wow!

Hmm that must have taken some contractual working out ...

unless ....

[scowls at Sean Lennon pic] ... nah ....

It's fair to say I didn't see the NY project coming to fruition, so I'm really pleased to be surprised like this. Hope it's not too long a wait!

Well, latest intelligence from tweets is that it's an EP recorded at Abbey Road. Now, let's open the betting on who's on it and what it is: my money's on Marianne Faithful, David Byrne, the GhostRider cover, and Rick Wakeman. OK, one of those I don't think is going to be on it ....

Heh. You'll be hinting at that bloke in the cape then ...

I'll be honest - if its Byrne I'll probably give it a miss.

Well, Wild Corgi, even if it is there might not be much of him. And I for one would very much like to see a production of 'The Myths and Legends of Queen Anna and the Nights Wearing Gucci Shoes' on ice (this is one for our older viewers, I fear...), so I'm holding out for the dyspeptic old git in a cape.

Please, Wild Corgi, tell me that's Mozart's k├Ânigin der Nacht and not the Whitney Huston song....

Weeeell - it might be ...

I mean I did say arias but my goldfish attention span is transfixed with horror at the thought of what that Whitney Houston song might be ..

Which of the two - Mozart or Whitney - do you think Anna might be more likely to cover?

Ha good question - put it this way, I wouldn't bet the farm on OR against either, how about you?

On a slightly more serious note, I am pleased to see Domino have been flexible with re-arranging release plans for Piece by Piece and this ep.

Well, in answer to your question: I suppose the easy answer would be (Synod of) Whitby, but I'd like to think Mozart: after all, Mara Carlyle has done a version of Dido's Lament, which is, well, interesting, although I still much prefer Purcell's original - it's a real hair-on-back-of-neck/tear-in-eye piece, isn't it?

Domino (with whom Carlyle's signed, I think) have indeed been sensible, but then, it surely makes sense not to alienate a massive talent like AC. And, after all, the Artic. Monkeys must be keeping the wolf from the door. How they manage to combine that recording and performing career with long-distance HGV driving is quite beyond me. And are they real simians?

Simian-ulations?

Totally O/T but I'd recommend Sarah Connolly's Dido recording - BBC4 broadcast a live performance by her a few years ago, one of the very few live performances I've seen that transcended the screen to get to you as if you were in the theatre.

I know nothing about Mara Carlyle, so off to Domino to find out more!

Thanks Wild Corgi, will check out Sarah Connolly.

That's if the false monkeys (Monkees?) don't get me first
