Anna's Christmas Message
« on: December 23, 2013, 11:43:11 PM »

An engaging message from Anna revisiting some of the highlights of her French and Iberian tour. OK, I suppose those of us who are not French, Spanish or Portuguese might be a little disappointed, but there we are... Will she record her version of Foxy Lady? Now that really would be something. In the old days (i.e. before downloads) about now we might have been speculating on a covers album, given that she has made a specialism of reinterpreting other people's songs, finding meanings in them unrealised in the originals (Wolf like Me, Baby it's You, The Wall, Fire I'm thinking of here, rather than Surrender or Jezebel, which I think are much closer to the originals, while Joan of Arc does this to the extent that it's an instrumental version) and by so doing producing some of the most powerful and memorable songs recorded in recent years (OK, we're biased, but even so...). I remember Anna being interviewed on BBC radio by Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie back in 2011 and politely agreeing with - I think it was the otherwise excellent Maconie's - assertion that she doesn't do covers, which was/is obviously untrue. The musical inventiveness that flows out of her is completely amazing. Another Hendrix song I would like to hear her cover is In the Midnight Hour. Or how about Nina Simone's Wild is the Wind (yes, I know Bowie did it, but I think her take on this would be very interesting), or how about a Jeff Buckley song? Anyway, cool Yule.
